apparently this film directly references a ton of other movies...

I love looking at the connections section for movies because users always add the most random crap to the list. I think the films listed under "references" are supposed to be films that the movie directly quotes or spoofs or is clearly paying homage to but users will add any old movie to list no matter how much of a stretch the connection they see between the two films is. If there's a love interest in a movie, some joker will think "hey, there was this older movie where there was also a love interest" and then hop on imdb and add the movie to the connections section. Sometimes people will add a line or two about how the movie connects to another movie, but most of the time it is just a random collection of films that have nothing to do with the movie.

Rick-Oh is a perfect example of this. If anybody could explain in precise detail how Riki-Oh directly references all of the film listed below, it would really clear up a ton of questions in my mind. For some reason, I doubt the guy who wrote and directed this movie had all of these films in mind while making Riki-Oh. Also, apparently the director had in mind a film that came out the very same year as this film. Riki-Oh also apparently directly references A Fish Called Wanda Really??? I'll have to re-watch both films because apparently I missed something...

The reference to The Ten Commandments (1956) should be obvious. There is a person on a cross in both films. I don't know where else one could get that idea from.

I haven't seen this movie yet, but the reason I found out about it was that someone said it has a scene in which a punch is shown in x-ray vision so you can see bone breaking-- a reference to The Streetfighter (1974), a Sonny Chiba flick.

Watched it last night for the first time and cheered when I saw it!! Sonny Chiba is the man!

The original comic book had an influence on the Street Fighter computer game. This article contains some amusing comparisons and other examples of influence: https://popcultmaster.com/2016/05/20/the-shield-of-david/
