Still the worst movie I've ever watched in a cinema

Nearly 30 years have passed, and this is still the worst movie I've ever watched in a cinema.

The only film I can think of that came close to being this bad an experience was Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, which left me in shock. But I think that had a lot to do with expectations, in no way is SW:TPM anything like as awful.

Mercifully, I didn't watch Transformers: ROTF at the cinema. I don't think I'd have made it through.

I still think the worst movie I've seen in a theater is Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers (Definitely a polarizing, love it or hate it type of film). Like you, seeing The Phantom Menace was almost surreal. Same with Kingdom of the Crytsal Skull, but that also had to do with expectations. When I saw Highlander II I didn't think it was particularly great, but I also wouldn't have put it in my bottom-10 (I was only 17 and it was the early 90s after all). After re-watching it today; the so-called improved "Renegade Version" no less, I can say this movie easily makes my short list of the worst big-budget films of all-time.

I saw it with my wife on a first date, seriously.

My previous GF dumped me after we went to see Memphis Belle, I'm sure the boredom of that film made her finally snap and tell me it was over.

Highlander 2 is pretty stinky, but at least it's so hokey it's funny.

The worst theatre experience I ever had was seeing Alien 3 in the cinema. There was a big group of us that went and we all fans of the sci-fi classics Alien and Aliens, in fact for a few of my friends they were their favourite movies. I can't tell you how excited we all were for that movie...and it was absolutely terrible.

The feeling of going out for dessert after watching Alien 3 with everyone fuming over how terrible the movie was is the worst movie-going experience of my life. Everyone hated it...everyone! I've never seen another movie that created such venomous hatred for it, even The Phantom Menace didn't leave a taste that bad.

Highlander II is the biggest disappointment I had in a movie theater.
Worst movie ever.

Shyamalan's The Last Airbender. Until I saw that one in theater (in [bad, last minute] 3D to twist the knife even further), Highlander 2 (saw it on video) had been the touchstone for how to defile a franchise. After Airbender I recognize H2 for the goofy lighthearted romp it truly is.

I actually saw 'Highlander II' as a special preview, they did a promotional tour in the UK long before the movie actually came out and my local multiplex was included. Three special showing (which given the cult (god-like) status that 'Highlander' enjoyed in the UK) were sold out in minutes.. I was lucky (or unlucky) to get a ticket. They were a couple of Producers at these showing too, no doubt to gauge the reaction of the market. I should add that the version I saw, was the 'Renegade Version' that was released years later on VHS and then later on DVD.

Well, suffice to say, the Producers didn't get the reaction I believe they were expecting. Before the movie started, it was a total party atmosphere, swapping stories on how many times you'd seen 'Highlander' (at that point, I'd see it over 30 times!, simple hokey fun the original movie was with an awesome soundtrack). One person even bought a TV/VHS and we all watched 'Highlander' before pouring into the theater..

So, the movie began.. the cheers all died down and we watched it.. throughout the showing, myself included you could hear people saying WTF!. are you kidding me!.. So, the movie ended and I've got to say it was surreal to say the least - you could've heard a pin drop, that's how quiet it was BUT that only lasted about 30 seconds and that came the shouting, cursing.. popcorn and drinks were thrown at the screen.. Booing everywhere. They hastily removed us from the theater sending us out the rear exits (normally, they'd let us go back through the front). I was so pissed off and I wasn't alone after watching this trainwreck of a movie.

I found out a few days later, that the promotional tour was cancelled, it was a disaster for them, not just at my local cinema but numerous others they did at the same time in other cities. Not surprisingly 'Highlander II' bombed (hard) in the UK.
