Shredder was unbelievably intense in this.

I was actually really scared of him as a kid. Having watched this and
the first sequel recently, you can really tell how much they toned the
character down in the second movie. It feels watered down and doesn't have
Quite the same impact.

Sad isn't it, Red?

I never noticed how scrawny of a guy he is in the first one until watching it again recently. I remember him being much scarier as a kid.

It was the mask, probably.

Agreed! And his intro, the small one with him sitting and watching TV aside, with him walking in and the dark music play, all hailing Shredder, was awesome. One of the best intros of a villain in recent memory.

Him walking with the jangling cape is awesome with the music.

I agree he was quite intense in this film, growing up as a kid I preferred TMNT II over this because Shredder wasn't so scary in that film, now as an adult I prefer this film and this version of Shredder, I thought TMNT II made Shredder feel more of a buffoon compared to this film.

Shredder was a bad ass in the first film. He was highly skilled, and his mask, weathered face, and harsh voice all worked together to create a villain that you really believed could kick some ass.

The Shredder in the first TMNT was not to be fucked with.
