Everything great except Robbins

Am I the only one that thinks Tim Robbins is an almost completely talentless actor? Even in Shawshank he seemed...well, like an actor as opposed to a character.

I like the script and cinematography of this movie, but Robbins sucks in it.

Gotta disagree. I loved Robbins in this movie.

He's a great actor.

I enjoyed him in this film and shawshank redemption

Nobody could have played this like Robbins. Not only have I never considered the notion that Robbins is a bad actor, it's a pretty laughable claim given his career. Nothing personal to you, no reason to argue, but I'm in the completely opposite camp on this one.

I think its silly to suggest that the success of a person's career has anything to do with his acting...unless you think Sylvester Stallone is a great actor??? I mean, there is a kind of spectrum of sorts between 'movie star' and 'actor', and sometimes there are these aberrations who, for me, don't lie anywhere on the line, and I honestly can't see why they became famous at all.

I actually made a list of them:

I didn't make the list to be edgy or whatever people might accuse me of, I sincerely can't see what the hype is all about.

Well, I don't know what to say to that. I wouldn't be able to watch a Stallone movie, they're not even in the same league. I think my top ten list would surprise you and would put to rest any notion of silliness in my taste in movies. That being said, I agree some people won the lottery, I don't think Tim Robbins is one of them - but to each their own.

Stallone is not bad either. I haven't seen Rocky 1 and 2 but they won an Academy award and are beloved classics. First Blood. Demolition Man.
The Specialist is one of the weirdest movies ever and I like watching it (like the NC watches Lady in the water). I wanted to do a parody of it. All his lines are delivered while he can't close half his mouth. But Stallone gives a very subtle performance in it. The villains are over-the-top, Stallone is subtle. He's just terribly miscast (nobody spots him at any time?).

I have the same thought, he is pretty poor, yet he was the darling of the 90's.

He was perfect for Shawshank but I only started thinking he was bad since the awful performance in Mystic River, a film I loved. He got an Oscar for it incredibly. Seabiscuit should have got the acting Oscar over him.

The most notable scene in Jacob's is where Tim Robbins gets the bayonet in the gut, and he looks at the camera and gives a head tilt like, wah wah wah. Along with a few more line deliveries that were pretty poor.
