Completely ridiculous parts of this film - SPOILERS


1) The over-the-top female FBI agent putting a gun to Anthony Hopkins' head in the car and saying "I'm here to help". Then why would she put a gun to his head?

2) Toward the end of the high energy hectic shootout at the end of the film the male FBI agent asks the annoying female FBI agent if she is hurt and she replies something like "only my ego".

3) After all is well, the Cornell family, less the daughter May, goes back into their devastated home and closes the door, as if to indicate that they're going to sleep now and no more police interaction is necessary.

The writing and direction on this film are so juvenile. This film is so dated. It could be made again and would be so much better.

This was actually a remake of a 1955 film that was based on a play. As to your questions:
1. Maybe she was trying to scare Hopkins into not taking any action-putting a gun to somebody will cause them to freeze and listen.
2. I have no *beep* clue here.
3. It is supposed to show the family is now safe and sound and back together. Also, May did go back in with them.

What was also ridiculous was how at the end when Mickey Rourke's character's gun run out of bullets, he suddenly becomes a wimp and Anthony Hopkins just drags him out of the house, and Rourke isn't even trying to hit Hopkins or anything! A dangerous criminal like that wouldn't act that way at all, gun or no gun.

I completely agree. This movie was hard to finish. It was one insult to the viewers' intelligence after another...beginning with the clean and highly improbable escape from the courthouse.

This movie was so absurd that it nearly became a comedy towards the end.
The police/snipers come nowhere near hitting their target until he's gone back through the front door, at which point they regain their accuracy (where were the laser pointers that we see in a later scene?).

And then as you pointed out, the scene where the FBI agent puts a gun up against Hopkins' head. Why would she do that???? It makes no sense.

This movie is full of moments that will have you saying, "There's no way that would (or could) happen."

That was Brittney Lewis and Lise Wilburn. What makes you think their shorts were too short? (J/K).

People don't 'get' this movie. It's a serious crime drama/thriller mixed with parody or black humor. Lindsay Crouse's amusingly over-the-top FBI chief is a good example. The two random college girls in ridiculously short shorts is another, not to mention the big dumb thug in blood-stained clothes. What "Timmy" (Hopkins) does to Michael Bosworth (Rourke) at the end is yet another. Then there's the incongruous orchestral score.

Remember, director Michael Cimino's first movie was "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot," a Tarantino flick almost two decades before they existed. 'Nuff said.

- Kelly Lynch drops the car off in a wide open lakeside space surrounded by homes, and then she hikes up a steep hillside in heels to a bus stop. Kelly Lynch walking in heels looked ridiculous enough on level ground.

- Mickey Rourke and the gang pick up the car by the lake, and then drive the other car into the water while making as much noise as possible in direct view of many homes.

- Mickey Rourke escapes from the courthouse. He breaks one officer's neck, punches another out at the door, and no one else witnesses this or follows.

- Mickey Rourke's acting headshot is used for his wanted poster.

- Lindsay Crouse, the female FBI agent, consistently displays her terrible acting skills, especially when she places the gun to Anthony Hopkins' head.

- Mickey Rourke and the gang let the teenage daughter talk to her boyfriend on the phone. Later they allow the boyfriend to take the daughter from the house, when she or her parents could've just told him to f off.

- Kelly Lynch calls the family's home from a pay phone knowing that she's being watched, and then she drives erratically with an airplane and police cars following her.

- David Morse drives erratically after seeing police cars, gets stuck, dumps a body right next to the car, runs away, and approaches women while covered in blood. Seconds later the FBI and snipers have him surrounded back by his car.

- Mickey Rourke and the gang allow the family to walk around, talk, fight, make plans in another room, sleep in separate rooms, jump out windows, and pick up weapons. They never think to tie up the family and keep them in sight.

- Anthony Hopkins easily throws Mickey Rourke outside and leaves him for the police. Hopkins returns to the house and closes the door with Rourke's brother still inside.

"only my ego" is pretty self-explanatory. She's not injured, but her reputation and pride and self-respect took a hit.

The beginning of the movie is absurd.

The stupid opening car scene that lasted 10 minutes.

Then the woman with the legs walked out. This seemed like TV movie from 1990. And on cable.

This is from a director who takes himself very seriously.

The Deer Hunter. 'Nuff said.

And Hopkins throwing Rourke down the stairs and out onto the sidewalk and slamming the door.

Because that would actually happen.

Poltergeist was more believable.

Also, the daughter, "GIVE ME BACK MY WALKMAN"!! was awful in the film.

Holy shit, this movie was incredibly crap. Like it was trying to be a David Lynch movie, only without the typical Lynch weirdness like midgets.
