It has to be said, Goodfellas won the test of time presently, no doubt

even if you think dances is the better movie, there's no denying that goodfellas is seen as the better film today and that it was snubbed at the oscars. again, that could change in 50 years, but right now, it's delusional to think otherwise.
Like for instance, on parks and recreation, one of the guys is made fun of for liking dances with wolves because it's seen as LAME. absolutely no one thinks that of goodfellas and if you do you're making fun of yourself more than anyone could, truthfully.

as i said before, things change and predicting the canon of classic cinema decades down the line is harder than it looks, so i'm not even saying that dances with wolves won't be rediscovered as a great and goodfellas won't be seen as relatively mediocre (but i'm also not saying that) however the people here saying dances with wolves is seen as the superior movie nowadays, you really need a reality check...

Poor Driving Miss Daisy, Dances with Wolves and Forrest Gump....still getting grief after all these years. :(
I bet if I visited the Forrest Gump boards, Pulp Fiction and Shawshank Redemption fanatics are still crying over Oscar thievery.

It's one thing to mention your own BP preference that year, but many fanatics like you sound obsessed and angry that DWW won Best Picture, as if an Academy recount was going to happen due to your admirable persistence.

I loved both movies (DWW and Goodfellas). One of Costner's best films, an incredible directorial debut, and a different kind of Western we don't usually see any more. Goodfellas is one of Scorsese's best, and one of the greatest gangster pics ever made.

But the Academy has over 6,000 voters from around the world voting on Best Picture. They didn't get together to decide on Goodfellas vs. DWW and which will make the Academy look good 20-40 years from now. They voted individually on their (very private) choice for Best Picture of the year, and those were the results. Goodfellas could've come very close. We will never know the voting results.
