Is this REALLY as bad as Siskel & Ebert made it out to be?

Gene said the movie seriously tempted him to quit his job and Roger called it a "crime" and "less than nothing." You can watch their brief, entertaining review here:

I've never seen the film, but their over-the-top condemnation makes me curious. Is it really that bad? (I happened to think the beach sequence shown in their review was funny).
