New tournament rules

What kind of competition gives the previous year's champion a free ride to the final round? That would be like the NFL giving the Broncos an automatic trip to to the AFC playoffs because they had won Superbowl 50. So Daniel gets to sit on his a-- the whole afternoon while Barnes fights his way through multiple opponents? None of those guys were a challenge to Barnes, but still, it's not very fair. Then again, Daniel was so out of shape, there's no way he could have made it past round 2 so it's the only conceivable way he could even get a shot a Barnes.

By the way, I love how Barnes refused to bow to Daniel and merely nodded his head when the referee demanded he do so.

You love that Barnes disrespected the very art that he was hoping to make a lot money out of?
Because get at least one thing straight here, it wasn't Daniel he was disrespecting, it was Karate itself!

If those pen pushers up at city hall don't like it,well, they swivel on this middle digit!

reply

Karate is not a defensive art…. It is an offensive sport. Get it right this is not a knitting class!

reply

Barnes didnt disrespect anytthing. He tore through opponents, kicked the defending champions ass and entertained the crowd with high level karate and his passion for victory. LaRusso disrespected the tournament, the crowd, miyagay and himself by being so out of shape, fighting so poorly and with so much fear and wanting to quit at the end instead of getting up (on his own accord) and completing the match like a man

reply

If I had been in the crowd and seen Mike Barnes's karate during the tournament, I definitely would signed up at a Cobra Kai school.

reply

Yeah, I thought he was an a55hole too!

reply

Given how he fought for basically the entire match against Barnes and his physical condition, it's really debatable whether or not, Daniel would have even made it to the final round.

reply

It's not really debatable is it? He would have run out of steam long before the final.

reply

That's what I think.

reply

If he had any respect he wouldn't have repeatedly broken rules intentionally in order to lose points.

reply

Pretty sure that was to save money on expensive tournament scenes. But I don't really know.

reply

Maybe we will find out next season that Silver bribed the officials to have this rule stand so it would give Daniel more leverage to fight in the tournament

reply

It’s unlikely Daniel would have made the final again. His run in ‘84 was a complete fluke. Macchio himself would have had a difficult time filming another montage in his shape.

reply

But wearsalan told me Daniel would have easily won the Finals, even if he didn't get a free pass

reply

Wearsalan is prone to making outlandish claims. He also thinks he could beat Mike Barnes in a street fight and that he was once part of Great Britain’s national karate team.

reply

I noticed that too about wearsalan. What a shame

reply

I could and I was.

reply

You were a karate champion in Great Britain?

reply

[deleted]

Yes.

reply

There’s nothing you have that Barnes can’t counter. Your karate’s a joke and everyone here knows it.

reply

Nobody here knows anything then if they believe that.

reply

WA how could you have defeated Mike Barnes? Barnes was nationally recognized as a tournament terror…. the only karate fighter to ever earn the rank of “bad boy”. He breezed through the tournament without breaking a sweat (with his chest staples up to boot) and still had Daniel of the ground begging to home…. Wouldn’t you be in awe and fear if Barnes met you on the mat??

reply

Why would I be in awe of Barnes? I was a national and international champion.

reply

Were you ever featured in a magazine like Barnes was?

reply

Yes, but you already asked this some time ago.

reply

Then why didn’t I read it? Also did they feature your face blown up on the page and bestow upon you the name of tournament terror?

reply

Why are you asking me why YOU didn't read it?

Also did they feature your face blown up on the page and bestow upon you the name of tournament terror?

Because unlike Barnes I was a clean fighter.

reply

The mag Barnes was featured in was prolific and everyone knew who he was. Also Barnes didn’t fight dirty… he simply used the point system to his advantage with the win/lose point strategy.

reply

Of course he was dirty. That's why Pat Johnson warns him that he won't tolerate any of his antics.

reply

Why is there a lose a point mechanism in karate matches then? Why isn’t a fighter immediately disqualified for a violation instead of only having to give up a point??? Side note, what happens if you lose a point when you’re at zero? Can you get negative points?

reply

Why is there a lose a point mechanism in karate matches then? Why isn’t a fighter immediately disqualified for a violation instead of only having to give up a point???

The lose a point is for lesser infractions.

Why isn’t a fighter immediately disqualified for a violation instead of only having to give up a point???

Because the violations are major infractions. Like kicking some one in the groin or hitting them after the ref has stopped the fight and the fighters are returning to their lines.

We've already done this and despite my best efforts to educate you, you remain obtuse.

reply

Nothing serious occurred then to warrent DQing Barnes.

reply

Why are you being so obtuse?
I distinctly mention the kick to the groin and the deliberate punch after the ref stops the fight and it goes right over your head.

What a numpty!

reply

Millsey millsey millsey. You are lying, shame on you. I said no such thing to you.

reply

I could have sworn I read one of your posts that stated this. If I'm mistaken, my bad

reply

You are mistaken

reply

Then my bad

reply

Good point millsey.

Silver's entire plan to humiliate those two clowns depended on Whineielle being in the finals, which clearly would not have happened absent this strange rule.
