I really don't see why they had to put this in the movie...was it really necessary? NO! God...almost as bad as Artax the horse in Neverending Story.

I never cried about Antie dying before (I always just felt sad), but as I was watching this earlier tonight I had tears streaming down my face. It reminded me a little bit of when my seven month old kitten died from feline leukimia a few months ago. I'm still not completely over his death, so any animal death scene feels like a slap in the face, even if it is only an insect. Plus, you can tell that Ron is genuinely broken-hearted over the death of an ant, which is normally considered nothing more than a pest.

I can't remember if I cried over Anty as a kid, but it's on TV now, I'm crying and I'm 26.

Re: Artax in TNES, oh my god yes. That movie always disturbed me as a kid; the whole swamps of sadness scene, and others, still hit me like a punch in the gut.
Seems strange to put such scenes in children's films and yet I think kids can often sympathise well with the sentiments...
I think overall it's probably good for them, in a weird way.

springninja - I'm sorry about your kitten :(

I don't think I actually CRIED, but I did feel emotion for that part.

All I need is one mic...

Me and my brother bawled like mad when we first watched it; poor little dude. Re-watching the scene I don't quite get their but I do get choked up. Where'd a scorpion come from anyway?

Let's just say I was much older than 6 and it was sad for me too. :) I wished they were able to save him and in the end scene you would see him living the dream in a beautiful ant farm.
