With the toe scene, Benny's bird in the background, and Richie leaving his wife- Harlem Nights is truely a funny movie.

With that however, comes some suprisingly poinient mements that can sometimes be lost in-between the laughs.

1) Someone already mentioned Richard Pryor's "Father" speach to Eddie Murphy about dying at 89 with kids and grandkids, instead of 27 but "not a punk"

2) I think there is a dramatically layered scene that Pryor pulls off perfectly. When Bugsy has Sugar in his car, trying to find Quick - he lays out everything as he sees it. Sugar not only knows he's right, but knows there is nothing he can do about it. Calhoune is a big evil mobster while Sugar is a harmless night-club owner. The way Pryor just seems to grin and bear it - behind his giant forced smile he looks heartbroken because he understands there is NOTHING he can do, or say, that can change the fact that the bully has him in his sights, and the Sugar Ray world he built over 20+ years of hard work will soon be dead.

Great scene - Great movie.

Sadly, underrated.
