I have to agree that the best scene in the film was the fight scene between Eddie and Della Reese. That scene was absolutely hystercal and I think Della Reese had the role of her career here as Vera.

As for everyone here mentioning their favorite scenes in"Harlem Nights",they were all good & I enjoyed all the humor in this movie overall! But,On the serious side of it all,I loved the adopted Father & Son ties between Sugar Ray[Pryor],& Quick[Murphy],My favorite scene was after Quik rushes to Sugar's home to inform him that he had just killed Dominique LaRue[Jasmine Guy],& that he was now ready to go out & take on Bugsy[Michael Lerner]After Sugar Ray calms Quik down;He breaks it down to Quik in what I believe was the most deep & direct/heartfelt conversation in the whole movie;"Hey Man,dying at 27 ain't cool; When you're in Bed,at 89,with your Children & Grandchildren around you,That's Cool!I did'nt come all this way to see you die at 27,I'm not gonna let them do it!If they kill you,They're gonna have to kill me,Cause I'm gonna kill now!"[SOLID!]

Thank you for reminding of this moment in the film...it is a lovely monologue flawlessly delivered by Pryor.

Any scene with the incomparable Della Reese!!!!

I like the scene when Arsenio Hall and his hommies catch up to quick hiding in that shop , "I'm gonna kill you Quick, you mudda Fu*()R" Then they all shoot thier tommie gunns and that little dude bust out with the 22 Automatic, "pop pop".

Nuttbutter I was just about to write that down. I also loved the scene after "Sunshine" seduced the goon and he calls his wife.... "Barbara? Yeah its me, Rich. Listen I'm never coming home. Take it easy" (not sure if the names are right)

Also some of the bickering dialoge between Reese and Fox was hilarious

"Woman make me some eggs and hash"
"There aint no hash"
"Its on the middle shelf"
"Thats tuna fish you blind fool"
"Well then cook some tuna fish b@#$tch"

reply

hahaha...this is my favorite too, especially the next line.

"You done got my mouth all ready for hash"

Priceless

reply

That was funny...the guy with the little gun. And I love the fact that he does it twice before Arsenio says anything and goes totally ballistic. That scene makes me laugh every time I watch it.

'Now stop Jackin' off and shoot the dice man, you *beep* up the game!" Richard Pryor said to the one toothed person

reply

I love the scenes people mentioned here before, but there was one I thought was pretty funny.

When Tommy is killed, the guy who was SUPPOSED to kill him said "I was supposed to cut his throat."

So, the other guy looks at him, looks at Tommy, and then says "So cut it."

I love this movie on a whole, but my favorite scene has to be when quick goes to sugar ray's house after shooting dominique. Just the way richard pryor delivers the line "oh, beat the pu$$y up huh?" makes me laugh hard everytime I see it.

"Damn man..you killed Junior. Junior deader than a *beep*
*beep* sorry Junior..Im Sorrrry. OOOOHHH QUCIK IS MINNEEE"
"I'm sorry Juniorrrrrr!!!!"

Best *beep* part of the movie. The whole sequence rocks...but that Hall bawling gets me everytime.

My #1 favorite is the scene right after Mr. Snaggletooth is shot by Quick. The exchange between Ray, young Quick and Benny is the best:

Ray: I'm taking this boy home to his mother.
Young Quick: My mama's dead.
Ray: Well, your daddy?
Young Quick: My father's dead, too.
Ray: Did you kill them?
Young Quick: No, they're just dead.
Ray: Give me that pistol." Where do you stay?
Young Quick: I don't live nowhere.
Ray: You can stay with me for a while.
Young Quick: I wouldn't trust him in the house.
Ray: He's all right. Give me five!
Young Quick: I ain't giving you *beep*

My second favorite scene is during the dice game and Benny keeps calling the dice wrong. At one point Benny states that he has something in his eye. One of the gamblers says "Well, get it out mother *beep* Then, Benny gives my favorite line of all time"

[b]"I AIN'T GONNA BE TOO MANY MORE MUTHER *beep*

Man, I'm watching this now, but there were so many scenes I had forgotten since it's been such a long time that I've seen. I don't think I can pick my favorite scene because I love all of them. One of them though, is when they put Cantone (Danny Aiello) in the bank vault and Quick tells him that if he takes small breaths, he might survive until Monday and then when the door closes, he tries it. There's so many more though I just can't think of them. Definitely the alley fight between Quick and Vera and the beginning of the movie too.

On the dvd there is a part missing from the Quick and Vera fight scene. In the original, Quick is shown firing the gun. The way he fires it is hilarious. I don't understand why that part of the scene is missing. Anybody know?

Laskid2k2,
Its a good thing that I still have the raggety old 1990 VHS recorded tape and its Runs good. I wouldnt even spend 7 dollars on the DVD if some part missing. Thats why Sometimes I hate buying DVDs that I still be buyin VHS tapes on sale.

I liked the scene from the very begining when Quick as a child shoots that real mean old man in the gambling room.

Also, who could not forget about the fight scene with Della Reese? HA! The last time I saw a fat old lady challenge a young punk to a brawl was on the Jerry Springer show! LOL

The entire movie is brilliant.

My favorite part is when Cantone (Danny Aiello) goes to see Sugar at his house. Aiello actually made me feel uneasy and Pryor was just awesome. Totally believable.

Then again when he goes to see Sugar at the club. "And I'm living in a *beep* HOVEL!!!"

Amazing stuff.
