shareHis mother was a former drug addict, who had to give up the custody of him when he only was a baby. She cleared up later and got a job as a waitress, but it was like she couldn't take the responsibility of having her own son back in her life.
An aunt was mentioned during his first epsiode, but nobody but Carl and Harriette seemed to want to keep him as a foster child. Really, it is revealed that he didn't know how to read when Steve first met him. Thus, I don't really blame 3J for becoming some miniature wannabe thug.
3J had a hard life orphan most of his life until winslows took them into there home and raised him to succeed in life
