Wouldn't it have been easier if...

I really enjoy a supernatural thriller that has a satisfying beginning, middle and end.

My only problem with this movie is it reaches its goal in an unnecessarily convoluted way. All Miranda had to do was tell Jeff to meet her at Tower's beach when his sacrifice time was ready. The entire movie was no more than an extended murder-by-ambush plot. Nothing that happened makes sense if you think about it too much.

The cult only performed the human sacrifice of an upscale person once a year during the winter solstice. They had to guarantee that the victim would show up of his own freewill, which meant more than just the assurance of a flimsy "Okay, see ya at the beach" phone call. I'm sure they tried it that way in the past and failed to get their victim, which meant waiting a whole year for another try. So they worked out something more elaborate and reliable.

Jeff was fully pussy-whipped by then. There was no doubt he'd have been just as incentivized to make it to the beach. And surely the cult would have been on his tail for assurance, just as they were in the movie. Note that they still ended up kidnapping him to force his appearance at the final cult scene.
