Is Dan Aykroyd embarrassed or ashamed of this movie?

The only point of reference that I have is when he and Chevy Chase guest starred on Family Guy (in a follow up of Spies Like Us). When Peter Griffin tells Chevy and Dan that he has seen all of their movies. Chevy asks Peter in bewilderment that he's even seen Cops and Robertsons and Dan asks Peter if he's even seen My Stepmother Is an Alien?

I mean the movie was a huge flop. It was produced for $26 million but only grossed about $13 million at the box office. Plus, the movie was originally intended to be a horror movie and allegory about child abuse instead of what it ultimately became.

Allegory about child abuse? That would have been more interesting than the crap it became.

I think that the problem with My Stepmother Is an Alien is that it's a movie that doesn't seem to know who it's marketed to. It's way too lewd and bawdy to work as a genuine family or kids movie but it's also too sentimental and soft-hearted to really work as a raunchy, full-fledged adult comedy (a la Animal House, Caddyshack, or Stripes).

I haven't seen this but can it be as bad as Caddyshack 2?

Excellent Question! I'm not watching it to find out!
