Karl

So, John leaves Karl for dead. In the floor below the roof that then gets blown up.
THEN paramedics find his body intact and, without checking if he's alive or dead, they put him in a body bag WITH HIS RIFLE, which he had left on the roof while fighting with John. (Or maybe the rifle got blown off the roof and landed on the street next to the body bag?)

Love the movie. Greatest.Christmas. Movie. Ever. But that always bothered me

He isn't in a body bag, he's wrapped himself in a blanket. The firemen who were in the building rescuing people were no doubt providing those two people and sending them downstairs and out to safety. My sense of it is that after Willis left, Karl started heading downstairs, and after everything went down, and people were making their way downstairs, he clobbered someone and took his blanket.

Makes sense.
I'm still wondering how he survived the explosion and how he got his rifle back., though.

If he freed himself and ran downstairs behind the hostages, he'd have been out about the same time as them. He may have grabbed a gun on the way down from one of his dead accomplices. All speculation, but surely within the realm of possibility. It's very possible he would have been able to come down just behind the others, and a fireman would have wrapped him in a blanket, and in the chaos he could easily have hidden the gun behind him or under his shirt.
