So this movie lost money at the box office?

$19 million budget and $8.2 million box office. Thats a shame, it isn't perfect but it was a highly enjoyable and entertaining film. People missed out on a great movie ticket.

reply

Yup, it bombed.

I don't apologize. I'm sorry, but that's how I am. - Homer Simpson

reply

Must have been poor marketing because the Movie is a pretty good creature feature with good special effects. Also, I didn't notice any forced political views in this movie either. Some movies especially now a days force their liberal views in their movies which is a turn off to me personally.

reply

Could be a lot worse! Could be one of those really *beep* conservative Christian movies!

reply

Yeah that always blows, Achilles.

reply

It probably made it back in home video sales though, much like other movies of its type from that time period. John Carpenter made a handful of films that bombed in theaters but recouped their budgets on VHS/DVD, like The Thing.

reply

The Thing is also another box office shame, should've made millions when it was released in theatres

If Ari Gold saw Chappie he would say:
"Chappie makes Elysium look like Citizen Ć’vcking Kane"

reply

Would love to watch these two movies in a double feature at a theater.

reply

Damn it was really good for an 80s film too. Nice acting, good effects for its time and the dialogue wasn't bad along with the directing. Most 80s horror films I've seen were pretty bad

reply

80s horror films on average were better than the crap they churn out now. Now it's all just pointless gore, found footage (bleech!), vapid good looking "actors" with no story or stories with so many plotholes you could put a light in it and spin it around and it'd be club lighting. Or worse there's some "clever" twist you can see a mile away if you're blindfolded.

I think the scene with the little kid in the sewer getting devoured by the blob put many people off of this movie. The scene was in the trailer, if I remember correctly. Killing a little kid in a movie was a bit taboo back then. Still, one of my favorites.

it was a highly enjoyable and entertaining film.

This movie bored the crap out of me.

reply

Everyone just assumed it would suck. I never heard anyone say it was good until very recently, like this year.

reply

That's weird. It's always been a known classic for everyone I know. Maybe i'm old..

reply

I was 19 the year it released.

reply

Some great movies bomb, shit happens!
