Jane was so inconsiderate.

When I was a kid, I never really got how selfish Jane was to the Maitlands. She was constantly bothering them to sell their house, showing pictures behind their backs, even when they already said no to selling it, has the gall to tell them it's too big for them, suggesting a family with kids should have it, instead?  I, myself, would love to have a huge house like that, even if I never have kids. some people have a preference and Jane was just totally out of line.

I always get the feeling now once they drowned, she was more than eager to sell it rather than mourning them. Especially when she gives Lydia the skeleton key and goes on about how she decorated the house. 

I would always rather be happy than dignified. 

Completely agree, i hated her the first moment she was on scene. I cant stand people like this, and the problem with them is that if you give them an inch, they will take a mile. They were way too kind with her, they should have told the witch off!

I agree with both of you, kinda makes you wish that Beetlejuice had scared her like he did the Deetzes. I would have loved to see a confrontation between those two.

that would have been hilarious!

reply

That would have been funny. Jane needed to be scared. Selfish woman could not wait to sell that house after Barbara and Adam died. Trying to pressure them into selling when they were alive.

I wouldn't be surprised if she set it up to make sure they would drive off of the bridge just so she can sell the house.

That could have worked. After the car crashes into the water, the camera pans over to the dog who runs up to a set of women's shoes, which pans up to show Jane. She picks up the dog and begins petty him. "Good boy...Good boy."

I always felt that way to. I understand that it's good to be nice to others and that Adam and Barbara were very nice people but she needed to be told to "STOP pressuring us and either leave us alone or drop the subject NOW!!!!"

reply

I'm bumping this topic cause I feel the way the TC does. She didn't even bother actually finding out if the people she sold it to liked the house as it was. What a jerk!

reply

I'm watching it now and just noticed that she never moved the stuff out the house. When the Deetez move in the Maitlands' stuff are still there at least pack their stuff away

Well technically, Jane isn't the good guy or the bad guy; she's just neutral and we need her to introduce the Deetzes into the movie.....that's the whole reason why she's in the movie. Did she sell their home too soon is the question. Maybe. Not too clear on how long Barbara and Adam were in there home alone as ghosts maybe three days; but time runs different for the living and the dead in this world; which is why Adam disappeared for three hours just walking onto his own front porch; on the other other hand, she does need to eat and has a child to support; near as we can see she's a single mother and people cringe that her daughter will grow to be just like her. Does her behavior explain why she had to raise the child alone and why her husband left? Probably; or it could have been a one-night stand, or widowed it's not important or explained; all we know about her daughter is raised to be just like her or a similar personality to Lydia Deetze. She and her child do not appear again in the movie after they give Lydia the skeleton key which Lydia has every right to have because it's a key for her own house! Besides some of you ought to get a grip; since when she sold the Maitland's house Barbara and Adam both were already dead and when you're dead you can't take it with you, and a house can't just stay vacant because the owners died, so it would have been sold anyways and y'all would be mad at another real estate agent.

I agree that she wasn't good or bad. She was hardly a villain. But she was extremely tactless!

When she said to Barbara that the house was meant for a family, Barbara immediately looked hurt. It was obvious that she and Adam had suffered either miscarriages and/or infertility. It was very insensitive for Jane to bring up the issue of children.

Totally agree with that statement.
