Father of Murphy's baby

Did the show ever say who the father of Murphy's baby was?

The father of Murphy's son, Avery, was Jake Lowenstein. He and Murphy had been married for a few days in the 60s, then he shows up again while she's working at FYI - twice. The second time he tries to convince her to marry him again, for good this time, but Murphy says no. He keeps trying to woo her into changing her mind and during this time, they're sleeping together. Also during this time, another of Murphy's old flames re-appears...Jerry Gold, and he wants her back as well. While Murphy's trying to make up her mind between the two men, she discovers she's pregnant!

It's ashame that it sounds like you missed these episodes. The one(s) where she finds out she's pregnant and has to tell the FYI staff, the "Uh-Oh" trilogy, are some of my personal most favorites. They're HILARIOUS.

Murphy tells Jake she's pregnant and that she's thinking of keeping the baby and he walks out on her, recinds his marraige proposal, and tells her he can't be in the baby's life. Idiot.

Thank you very much for filling me in! I really appreciate it. Murphy Brown comes on after Roseanne usually, and since I'm already up watching Roseanne, I sometimes glance at Murphy Brown while I get read for bed. I didn't like it when I was younger, but now I kind of do like it. So, I may see some of your favorite episodes.
Thank you again for filling me in. :)

What season was the pregnancy? Do you remember? Or does anyone remember?

Season 4 (1991-92)

They had wrapped the season and the 'Murphy Gives Birth' [title: Birth 101] episode aired in May when then-vice-presidential-candidate Dan Quayle gave his infamous "Family Values" speech. The show addressed his comments and the issues raised in the first episode [actually a two parter entitled You Say Potatoe, I Say Potato] of the following (fall 1992) season. It was snarky, yet appropriate--IMO.

As far as I can recall, Jake never did reappear, though Peter Hunt [Scott Bakula] made a great surrogate (beyond Eldon, who was only there for two seasons beyond the birth and the show was on another four seasons beyond].

Murphy's ex, Jake Lowenstein, was Avery's father. He was played by actor Robin Thomas.
