The Movie Shoulda Been More Like This

The Narnia movie could have been so much better. It's sad that the story was drifted from, and I hope there is a remake sooner rather than later.

I mean, it's quite crazy that this version is more enjoyable than a movie that cost millions.

Sad state of affairs...

I completely agree with you. The movie was a big disappointment. I feel they just took the whole thing and tried to make it into an action film. I didn't really feel like I got to know the characters very well, which is one thing I really enjoyed about the original. You could get a feel for the personalities of each of the characters, especially the children.

I agree, the Hollywood treatment of the movie - turning it into a big glossy epic type totally detracted from the spirit of the original book. The BBC series always feels magical, the way it is supposed to be, while the movie just feels like one more bland money maker

I prefered the ending of this series, When Aslan roared and knocked the witch down the mountain.
I dont know which ending the book has as I have never managed to finish it, but im almost certain that the lion would not eat the witch!

I am very sorry to say that I saw the movie, thought they'd changed the ending...then read the book and realised the BBC had changed it!Although the book is a bit vague as to exactly what happens...

Other than that the BBC version is a much more faithful and much better adaptation than the movie.I watched the movie and was horrified to realise Edmund came across as the most sympathetic of the children, whereas in the BBC version the characters are a lot more likeable, especially Susan. And Lucy doesn't look about five years old.

i actually really liked the new movie. i thought it was fairly faithful to the book and C.S Lewis would be happy. (that's just me though) but i do love this older version. it's soooooooo much like the book. and so much fun to watch.

I hold the bbc version very dear to my childhood. I have every vhs and I watched them over and over again when I was growing up. Just recently I saw the new version and I was very pleased. The series was in dire need of an upgrade and I think it was done exceptionally well. The new film was made for a different audience than the bbc version, but still managed to maintain the magical charm and the aestheticism of C.S. Lewis' novels.

I can't wait to see how the rest of the series stacks up.

Couldn't agree more.

This is in a diffrent league. The characters, settings, music, story.

Everything was better. it's such a shame because i was so looking forward to the film.

I agree totally with both of you. Why does everything in Hollywood lately take itself so damn seriously. The Narnia books have just the right balance of lightness, wonder, and magic, which this adaptation caught extremely well despite a small budget. I should also say that while I'm an American, I believe, whether it be through acting or direction, the British are truly the ones who make movies and TV into art forms. Not Hollywood. I would love to see how the BBC would have done LWW givin the Disney budget.

To a certain extent I agree.
