I have heard theories that the stories in this series (with the exception of the pilot episode) take place during the time gap between Dream Child and Freddy's Dead.

shareI was born exactly one week after the original movie was released and was too scared to watch until Freddy's Dead was released so I was more the VHS rental era Elm Street fan and I had made up in my mind all on my own without internet theories that the TV show filled in the gap between Dream Child and Freddy's Dead because I wanted it to be so and still do when I watch the shows today and imagine it's so. So I believe that's just what we want to believe.
However the reality seems that it's a totally different timeline than the movies and I heard a theory I thought made more sense that Freddy's Dead was actually in continuity with the Freddy's nightmares universe and that seems to make a lot of sense to me.
