She played dowdy school teacher Jane Spofford in the classic 1987 film The Witches of Eastwick.

But Susan Sarandon, 74, revealed she was originally set to play a very different role in the George Miller directed comedy fantasy film at a fund-raiser for LA’s Project Angel Food on Saturday.

'I initially was cast in Cher’s part,' said the veteran actress, referring to the sassy and sexy character of Alexandra Medford, who was ultimately played by the singer.

However Sarandon, who lived in Rome at the time, said she 'didn’t find out till I got to LA... that I was actually moved to a different part.'

'I had to learn suddenly to play the cello, and I had never played an instrument in my life. They said they would sue me if I left, so I didn’t have much choice!' continued the Thelma and Louise star.

The movie's screenwriter, who was also at the charity event, added, 'Cher sort of muscled her way into that part.'

'That’s Jon,' continued Susan. '[He] and Cher had a past liaison or something, so that was another element.'

As well as having been married five times, Superman Returns producer Jon Peters has a long and illustrious dating history.

The former hairdresser was in a long term relationship with Barbra Streisand from 1973-1982.

He was also married to actress Leslie Ann Warren for a decade, and in 2020 was married to Pamela Anderson for 12 days.

The Witches of Eastwick is about three single women in a picturesque village who have their wishes granted, at a cost, when a mysterious and flamboyant man arrives in their lives.

The stranger, played by Jack Nicholson, ends of being the Devil himself.

The film was nominated for two Oscars and earned over $63 million at the worldwide box office.

What is she blabbing about.

>I had to learn suddenly to play the cello, and I had never played an instrument in my life.

It's a movie Susan. There were a couple of short Cello scenes. You learnt how to sort of mime with the help of editing and hand doubles. Michael Douglas didn't have to play piano as well as Liberace to play the role of Liberace.

Sarandon had the better role, as her character had more to do, and it felt like she had more screen time overall. I just watched it tonight.

Sarandon transformed, while Cher played Cher the whole time. She was slotted into that role because she was a way better actress.

>'I initially was cast in Cher’s part,' said the veteran actress, referring to the sassy and sexy character of Alexandra Medford, who was ultimately played by the singer.

This "journalist". As if Sarandons chaacter wasn't the sexiest and sassiest in the whole movie.
