Why did Jim act so confused like a deer in the headlights?

He was speeding to Jerry's house, he knew he was there, yet he goes in with his gun in his pocket, and when he sees Jerry he just stares at him confused as if he doesn't know if its him or not, he even points out to him he's got blood on his face, what the fuck was he doing?

You know thats the guy that murdered your sister and other families yet you stand there like an idiot with your gun in your pocket acting confused.

Because in the real world during life threatening situations besides fight or flight, the other most common reaction is to freeze up. It happens all the time and that’s why law enforcement and military train their personnel so the action of pulling the trigger when needed in a high stress situation becomes normal.
