When it took place
Rags to Riches aired in the 80s, but from the looks of it, it looks to have taken place earlier. It looks to take place in the 60s or 70s.

shareYes, it took place in 1961 but there were a lot of goofs...Both Diane & Rose wore their hair like it was set in the 80's. Most of the music they performed in the musical parts were from after 1961.

This is so true. Sometimes they could dress like the time, but others they dressed like the 80's. And you're also right about the music. I remember them singing Nowhere to Run by Martha and the Vandellas. Their performance was good, but that song came after 1961. The producers should have done more research.
shareTrue, there were a couple of songs that did not match the timeline, but oh well. I wish it had ran longer.
shareWhat’s confusing is why they chose the 61 timeline if the continuity was so challenging. They could have easily set it in present day 87 and still had a few sixties songs, which were still massively popular.
