Problem with the shootout at the end

We're supposed to believe that all the villagers are pitching in and taking shots, but isn't it the case that every single time we see an 'Amigo' firing, even from a distance, it's clearly one of the main three? Kind of ruins the illusion. I think the only exception is when you see a bunch of people (from the back) running into a building.

Yeah, that always kind of bugged me. Then again, it kind of fits the tone of this movie, intentional or not.

Also, why are the villagers all armed? The shootout would make more sense if the villagers were just distracting the bandits while the 3 amigos took the real shots.

With the dozens of revolvers, they could have overwhelmed the bandits even without amigo costumes.
