Could this film BE any funnier?

What can you say about the three amigos?

It is very funny, with some great one liners. I've liked this film since i first saw it when i was a kid and it is still just a funny today. great performances from the three leads and some truly hysterical moments. Surely "You killed the invisible swordsman" is the best bit of the film and is one of the funniest and most bizarre scenes in movie history.

What do you reckon?

"I'm in the god damn club aren't I?"

It's a sweater!! --El Guapo, delighted with the birthday gift from his men.

Also priceless was the single line sung on cue by the gruff-looking bartender in his sweet timid little voice: "My little buttercup.."

And anytime Martin Short breaks into that strange 'Ed Grimley' dance in his movies (he also does it in Innerspace), I giggle my tailfeathers off.

Brace yourself while Corporate America tries to sell us its wretched things.--The Tick

I love in the opening part (i think i havnt seen this movie in forever) where dusty lucky and ned are singing and they hold that one note out for a reeeeeaaally long time. ahahahahah it gets me every time

and the whole "infamous" bit.

reply

"We're just going to have to use our heads..."
"DAMN!"

"I'll come back one day."
"Why?"

"Lip-balm?"

"With your little banditos running all over the yard..."

But most of all, my siblings and I sit around doing "singing-bush" impressions! We can't get enough of that high-pitched, wavery singing! Sheeeee'lllll beeeeee cubid roud da moudain ben she coooobes!!

"Good night, Ned."

reply

"Tell us we will die like dogs."

"Ohhhhh, you WILL die like dogs!"

This is still one of the funniest movies ever and that song gets me everytime too. I'd love to get the soundtrack to this. Nothing beats the invisible swordsman bit with the secret chants... "Farley, farley, farley!" and "Nip, nip, nip, Nanny!" My other 2 favorite quotes:
"Ah, no dough, ah no show!"
"Take the Amigos clothes!"

The dancing elguapo and efee are doing is so funny. i love elguapo's leg kick dance. My friend and I did the same dance at a buddies' wedding.

Yeah, this film will ALWAYS be a classic, pity it only rates an average of 5.8!

My fav lines/scenes:

When Martin Short is flattered that he is recognised by the German man, and then he starts this monologue "You know often I think....."

Steve Martin's quote about filling the guy with so much lead, he could use his dick as a pencil, and then the guy goes "What do you mean?!" and Steve looks blankly and says firmly "I don't know...."

When they are in bed describing what they will do with the money, and Steve says he will buy, "A BIG SHINY SILVER CAR". And Ned says he will open an orphanage....and the other two go "oh yeah sure, we were going to do the same thing!"

And the whole line in the sand thing, when they decide to stop pretending to be actors and confront the enemy. Such brave men! What heroes! :-)

It's hilarious when Dusty is trying to act like one of El Guapo's men at his birthday party and he says:

"We raped the horses, and rode off on the women, and pruned the hedges of many small villages."

17 years and I still laugh out loud thinking about that one.

i love the bit wer the two of em were under the wall an martin was on top tryin to get their attention.
and
wen el guapo goes 'are they falling from the sky today?!' and then Ned falls from the rope

The party scene where Dusty plays the guitar and then belts out some melody in his loud, operatic voice. And then Ned talking about Dorothy Gish... "UH! True story. Dorothy Gish." And the kids' faces are totally blank.
But you guys listed a bunch of great ones too.

Best scene: The horses singing backup as the other two sing Ned to sleep.

Turtle: "Good night, Ned!"

I thought of another one...
Waking up (in the same bed, of course, which is hilarious in itself) with the bell gonging loudly: Dusty: "Next time we come here, I'm ordering a different room." And then Ned just tumbles out of the bed... EXCELLENT. I have to go watch this now!

What about when Steve Martin is chained to the wall and he's like "Gunna make it! Gunna make it!"

my favorite scene has to be when they're riding in the desert, Lucky and Ned are dying of thirst and Dusty rinses out his mouth and throws his full canteen to the ground.

I crack up during the conversation between Jefe and El Guapo when they are talking about how Carmen does not want to sleep with El Guapo.

Jefe: "When you want the cattle, you just take the cattle, when you want the woman you just take the woman. Why don't you just take her?"

El Guapo: "Jefe, you do not understand women. You cannot force open the petals of a flower...when the flower is ready, it opens itself up to you."

Jefe: "When, do you think, Carmen will open up her flower to you?"

El Guapo: "Tonight, or I will KILL her!"

Damn, just writing the above has me chuckling to myself.

Much kudos to the script writers and for the excellant delivery by Arau and Plana.
