Clumsy Political Propaganda, Oliver Stone Style

The adulation this film received in the 80s was ridiculous. This is strident commie propaganda. Oliver Stone would make a great Propaganda Minister.

The reality, the US simply could not allow another Communist regime in Central America, one year after Nicaragua. This was the height of the Cold War, and there was a hell of a lot on the line.

Carter didn't get it, and in his naivety, he emboldened the Soviets. Reagan got, and brought the Soviets to their knees.

End of story.

But.. the premise of the film doesn't dispute that, it does however call into question the ethics of the U.S supporting a brutal dictator.

I've never voted Republican. Democrats eventually adopted the same philosophy/policy stances. I've heard many Dems give credit to Reagan for finishing off the Cold War. Jimmy Carter was just completely clueless and utterly incompetent.

You mean to say "another democratic regime". They are harder to control than violent fascist thugs you supply with weapons.
