Psycho 2 was better

This one felt too straightforward and predictable. I fell asleep at points while watching it but the story felt too similar to the original and him just being a crazy killer again is less interesting than the twists in part 2. When it was revealed that Mary and her mother were trying to drive him insane again in part 2 it got interesting and this movie never got interesting.

I like PSYCHO III for it's bizarreness and atmosphere, but you have made some salient points. The film is about 20mins shorter than II, yet it for me, it doesn't really hit it's stride until the last 30mins and is lacking in the suspense department.

Perkins directed well and he made the film stylish, but his casting of bland Diana Scarwid and his character's obsession with her wasn't that convincing, and a 90min film like this shouldn't be plodding in parts but snappy. Yes, the story was convoluted and contrived, in twisting around the interesting revelation of part II. Part II was also better acted by it's cast. I think Perkins shouldn't have directed, and while the script has some witty and quotable dialogue, the story lets it down and it doesn't quite have the same impact as II.

They should've kept the hitchhiker the killer.
