Let's put something clear here (unpopular but legit opinion here)

Rourke's character is not at 100% the *beep* in this situation. Sure he wasn't the best lover and he was abusive. But in the end, he really loved her and he just felt that she was all into his games. His heart is broken when she leaves her, something that surprisingly made me feel bad for him, and made me despise her in a way. I can relate because put aside the "abusive" notion (because I wasn't), my ex left me in a simular way. And I can tell you, it really hurts.

So in the, without being an angel himself, she is kind of a bitch...

She liked it at first, but she knew it couldn't go on. Too bad for him.

She had to leave him to save herself. She recognized that it was a toxic relationship and that there was no way it would be a healthy one. He realized too late that he loved her (at least as far as he was capable) but there was no going back. Her mind was made up, but it was not an easy decision for her.

In the novel (which was based on the author's own experience), he was much worse and would leave her handcuffed in his apartment for days. She had a breakdown, and he dropped her off at an institution, and never saw her again. The author ultimately took her own life in 2011.

There are no women like her in real life.

Just curious: do you know if the affair had anything to do with it? I mean, I know he did some damage, but I am wondering if it screwed her up for the rest of her life. Did her husband commit suicide too? I read he died four years later.
