Why is Daniel-san stunned when Mr. Miyagi gets the car started?

He had literally just driven the car right up to the house. Yes, it was smoking and had clearly been in an accident, but at no point do we see Daniel unsuccessfully attempt to start the car.

If they wanted this scene to land, they should have had Daniel arrive with a tow truck driver and describe how it wouldn't start and the mechanic at the garage couldn't get it started either and said it was a total loss. Then Miyagi being able to get it going so easily would have been impressive, similar to fixing Daniel's leg when the doctor said there was no way.

Or at the very least, they should have shown Daniel coming to a sputtering halt further down the driveway, attempting to get it going again with no success. The way they actually presented it, the whole thing was kind of bizarre.
