WTF

Come on people. Rate this higher. It should be in top 250. Greatest sports movie ever. Besides Raging Bull, but that was more movie than sports. If movies change peoples lives on a regular basis, I think it's up there. Gene Hackman at least should have had nomination for best actor, period.

Yes, this is an awfully good film. I don't pay much attention to the so-called Top 250 or whatever, so I don't much care about that. But this is one film that can be watched many times without it getting stale.

And yes, Gene Hackman was terrific in this role, but that's to be expected. He doesn't know how to deliver a bad performance.

The whole thing was perfectly constructed, with attention to certain details in the script--the dialogue and small actions that lent the performances much authenticity.

This film is now over 20 years old and it is not really dated. The great cinematography and the perfect score just cap it off, but, of course, it is the script & the performances that make it happen.

I believe ESPN & Several others have Hoosiers no 1, 2, 3, all time. It makes my top 10 sports flicks. Not no 1..

I give it a 10/10. Helluva movie. No matter how many times I see it, Jimmy's last second shot always gives me goosebumps.

Agreed

Hackman should have been nominated for just about every performance he ever gave. I really miss him in movies.

He was great in this as he is in everything he does, but one thing he's not good at IMO is having chemistry with the female co-stars. His "love" scenes with Barbara Hershey in Hoosiers were a bit cringy.

I'd have to have another look at some of his other movies where he was courting women, although right off hand I can't remember him ever being involved in much screen romance. I think, in "Hoosiers", the relationship with Hershey was supposed to be somewhat tentative. Haven't seen it for a while. If there was a problem in chemistry, it also could have been the script, or even her performance. She's always seemed a bit off-putting, to me.
