How common is the name Hunter?

There's this character and there's Hunter S. Thompson and that's it?

reply

There is also a college wrestler at Ohio State named Hunter Stieber...It's far from a common name, but you do see it pop up occasionally.

His name was Hunt.

I'm happiest...in the saddle.

Right, forgot about miss Tylo. So both sexes can use the name. Did not know that.

I always have thought her name would have been a good one for a hero/heroine in perhaps a science fiction novel/series. It's so catchy!

reply

Yeah, once you name your kid like that, any lesser occupation would be a disappointment. :)

I'll bet there are some "regular" people named "Hunt" or "Hunter". I didn't do a search for others, just through IMDb.

When I was at the city newspaper for 10 years, I was in charge of a number of departments, including obituaries, so I know how unusual names can get and that they often aren't the only ones with those names. Among the most interesting are: Fairy (women), Ruby (men), Opal (men and women), Rose/Rose of Sharon (men); Sloan after author Sloan Wilson; Zola after author Emil Zola; and many more. Long ago, we had local residents named Pink Golden, Dusty Rhodes, and Star Dust. At one of our cemeteries, I noticed a headstone with "Cinderella", but I don't recall the last name.

Move to western Pennsylvania (ironically where this movie is set) and you will find the name “Hunt or Hunter” very common. Western PA is filled with a ton of redneck hunters…and they all name their kid “Hunt or Hunter” When I first saw the movie and heard the lead’s name it made me laugh as I knew like 100 people with that name in this area.

Hunter Pence, outfielder of the Astros, Phillies, and as of late, the Giants.

Of course there is Hunter Hearst Helmsley but we all know his real name is Paul.
