Jason facing the camera is an inspired way of drawing a line between the earth-bound Jason of the early films and the supernatural killing machine of latter installments; it also just fucking awesome.
I don't mind the silliness that much. After all, the "Friday" franchise isn't exactly Fellini or Renoir. I wouldn't mind them cashing in on the current "Game of Thrones" craze and plopping Jason in his next outing in a medieval setting. Or how about Jason squaring off with Vikings? How gnarly would that be?

I love the Gothicism of the opening; they're channeling so shamelessly the Universal Monster Movies you half-expect the Mummy or Frankenstein's monster to wander into the frame.
And Jason doing a Molaram-impersonation-on-crack is a kill for the ages --- maybe my favorite kill in the movie.
