We love the John Hughes classic, but what did the iconic film critics think of it?

reply

"Siskel here mainly seems irked at how the film doesn't capture the excitement of the Windy City, noting that he felt that parade scene was a misfire. "That scene didn't thrill me and I live in Chicago," he adds,"

he says about what instantly becomes the most beloved and iconic parade scene of all time. LOL

reply

I usually favored Siskel, but here, not so much. I disagree about the Jennifer Grey/Charlie Sheen scenes, which he called "too little, too late". Ditto for the parade.

Why do they give out letter jackets to marching band? It's not a sport! We all know it!

reply

That's what made Siskel so much better than Ebert, he was never afraid to go thumbs down on the flicks that everyone was supposed to like. Oh and his destruction of Ebert after Ebert's ridiculous thumbs up for Cop and a Half earned my extreme admiration.

reply

I could never take Ebert seriously after he gave "The Usual Suspects" (1995) one-and-a-half out of four stars.

I think his butter was slipping off of his noodle a long time ago since he was way off of the mark with his rating. It was critically acclaimed and is still popular among the general audience nowadays.

Not sure what the deal was with Siskel's review of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". I suppose it's targeted more for a teenage audience.
