I had to laugh

When Sandy was on the phone with Jeffrey;
"You lied to me!"
"I know I'm sorry"
"I forgive you. I love you."
Like what?? You just found he was sleeping with an older married woman and you decide you love him after having like 3 or 4 interactions??

And was it just me or did the last "he put his disease in me" sound a little like she was going "hehe I *beep* ur man lol" I don't know, it made me giggle. Did anyone else get that impression?

And how did that *beep* you you *beep* *beep* line get so famous? I don't even remember hearing it when I watched, but I saw it printed all over t-shirts of New York street vendors.
Am I missing something? People think this movie is so great and I just don't get it...

Were you born after 1993-94? Because your generation won't really understand a film like Blue Velvet or its appeal.

You have to remember that this film came out before the internet age. Nowadays, everyone's desensitised because they can see everything at the click of a button. The only time you could see anything messed up was on the news, and even then it was presented in a very sanitised, clean and family friendly way. But when this came out, nobody was ready for its sheer audacity. It lifted the lid on a seemingly perfect all-American setting and exposed us to all sorts of horrors and sexual perversions.

Not to mention it's beautifully filmed, tells a pretty remarkable story and presents a range of quirky larger-than-life characters. Of course it's special. If you don't get it, well good, I don't want the ignorant, self-obsessed younger chums of today messing with incredible films of yesteryear! They need to stick to their spoon-fed torture porn and over-the-top shlock of American Horror Story and leave the subtle charm of a film like Blue Velvet alone.

You are a pretentious ageist and your post doesn't actually address anything in the OP.

They weren't a couple at the time, she had a boyfriend at the time; he didn't lie, he just forgot to tell her.

Only those with no valid argument pick holes in people's spelling and grammar. 

I find the scene on the phone to be absolutely beautiful. Sandy represents love and positivity in the world. Jeffrey straddles the worlds of light and dark, but Sandy is all light. When he asks for forgiveness, she will give it even though she has realized he's been up to some more shameful things than he's told her.

You can tell a man wrote this. No woman would be so forgiven that quickly.

I can’t say for sure, but I surely haven’t met one yet.
