My issue with Oprah's company

... was back when her book club was so popular that her fans would grab the books only if it matched what was exactly on TV. Anna Kerenina was one book with multiple releases. We had 10 copies, but it didn't say "Oprah Book Club of the Month." So, the people refused to buy more affordable copies of the book. Until the last two releases, Oprah's production Co didn't allow bookstores to pre-order the books for the customers because they were afraid we'd leak the titles before it aired.

When that happened, we had to deal with customers asking for books for a couple weeks. It would have been better had they preemptively let the publishers know and allowed retailers to order copies so the customers wouldn't have to wait.

We did it with Harry Potter and Twilight. For the customers, it would have been good for Oprah's company to do the same earlier (they did the last two times).

I'm not a fan of Oprah, but I don't really care about her personality so much as the customers. There are certainly issues with her recommendations (John of God/ A million little pieces), but that's just ignorance. The issue of customer service should always be forefront.

Why are you airing these gripes some 20 years later? Hilarious and sad.
