The majestic score for Witness by late Composer Maurice Jarre

Late Composer Maurice Jarre did his second fully electronic score for Witness. the first fully electronic score he did was the Dennis Quaid film, Dreamscape. like his son Jean-Michel Jarre who's a Musician and Synthesizer player, Maurice Jarre used Korg, Yamaha and Roland Synthesizers.

It's a phenomenal score though I feel like it doesn't fit the film that much. It seems like it would be more at home with a film like "Blade Runner."

I suspect they deliberately chose to make it feel out of place and strange, like the main character.

Good point, hadn't thought of it that way.

Wonderful music!

I've always loved this movie since I saw it in the theater, and the music was nice, but upon a rewatch a few years ago, the sad fact of the matter is that the use of synthesizers makes it feel horribly dated. I wish a new version of the score could be done an actual orchestra and a new cut of the film released using that.

I hope not. Instead make a remake, the final result would be as crappy anyway. Do not ruin the original work.

I find it bizarre that a lot of people who are against censorship in movies and any kind of revision, tinkering or updating is considered sacrilege...yet they cannot accept an electronic score which was the norm for the time the movie was made?

And especially at a time when certain quarters are calling for movies to be censored such as GWTW, the TV show Fawlty Towers etc.

To me the same principal applies...its the original, leave it alone.

I also think this score holds up very well personally. And there are many classic synth scores from that era...not all, it has to be said. But...they are the original scores, so leave them be.
