Has Rocky ever blocked or evaded a punch?

This dude took everything to the face. A boxer with such horrible defense would have been killed in the ring a long time ago

"Its not about not getting hit, its about getting hit hard in the face, and getting back up"... Isn't that the quote from Rocky 6?

Not really. He evaded punches quite often, though because of his style, he got hit plenty of times, too. Joe Frazier is a good example of this. He could evade, but most of the time he took tremendous damage so that he could get in there and deliver his own blows, and because the blows were devastating and his chin was strong, it was a good method. Even in the fights that he handily won, his face usually looked worse than his opponent's. The "Fight of the Century" is a perfect example. Frazier won pretty convincingly, and although Ali's jaw was terribly swollen, Frazier's face looked like it had been hit by a semi...twice.

LOL Rocky dies. It's true, but these are movies, you do have to keep that in mind. While I don't think he'd have been killed, most refs would have stopped the fights in these movies, long before Rocky was able to win them--you can't just stand there in a boxing match and get punched like he does without the ref calling it.

Rocky takes the idea of "rope a dope" to the extreme in most of these films and as others have mentioned he only really puts up defence and evasion on some opponents (like Clubber 2nd fight, fight with Tommy Gunn). I think the fight in Rocky Balboa was also a little more realistic but it's been so long since I seen it I don't remember.

Because these are movies and there to show you the action and to show the punishment Rocky takes (fights are not easy for him and he takes a beating despite his wins) and the heart he has to win the fights. In terms of real life boxer skill? Yeah as said, if he wasn't moving and blocking more than they show, he'd just be eliminated from the fights by the refs time and time again. But yeah it's a movie.

Just like how in movies when a hero/protagonist "knocks out" a drone bad guy instead of killing them, they stay down...for like 10 mins plus (if they're even still on screen). When in real life unless they're in a coma or actually dead, a simple knockout and a person is up in a minute or so tops. But it's movies, not reality. Similarly Taser shots are quite silly in movies/TV as well--hit someone in the movies and they're down in the same fashion. In real life a Taser only puts someone down for a few seconds and they don't continue to shock them as they're down (they don't work like that other than the manual "push into your opponent" types which you'd have to keep holding on them and aren't as powerful). You can get up from a taser hit in short order (you're a little disoriented and yes you will hit the ground instantly, but it doesn't last long). But anyway I'm not going to get too carried away on all that "what isn't real in movies"--we all get the picture.

The people here are underplaying his defense in the Clubber fight. He does take some really hard shots in it, but he dodges and blocks more punches than he takes in it. At some points, he's dodging punches like Ali used to. It's not nearly the "block all the punches with my orbital bones" kind of fight everyone makes it out to be. Literally just watched it like two minutes ago. Was shocked at how much defense there actually was on Rocky's end.

I thought I could paint it red, but I couldn't find enough goats.
