Still a great thriller!

It's 2014 and this is still a great thriller! I'm impressed with out well it has stood the test time. Great acting and script.

Hmm. I don't know. After 30 years of evolution in the thriller genre with all its more and more sophisticated twists and plots i think it barely holds up. So Forrester was a mastermind killer but in the end was that sloppy he just kept that typewriter practically in plain sight? I couldn't buy that.

It is one of my favorites, and I re-watch it every couple years. I love the reveal scene, I wait the whole movie for that scene.

reply

Me either. The typewriter in the closet was absurd. I'd give the movie a 6/10.

But I'm not sure thrillers are any better today than they were back then.

In fact I'd put the best thrillers from 30 and 40 years ago (CHINATOWN, BODY HEAT, etc) against anything being written today.

The problem is, we're not seeing very many brilliantly plotted thrillers even today. In fact I can't think of any that have come out in the last 15 years, can you?

And please don't say GONE GIRL. That had some good things going for it. Rosamund Pike, for example, is great in the film. But the plot is absurd. At least as silly as the plot of JAGGED EDGE.

I thought it was alright.
