I know I'm going to get CRUCIFIED for this ...
Dawn of the Dead is better than this.
Now- please - before you open fire:
I saw Dawn of the Dead when it was released in 1979. It BLEW MY MIND. It made me LOVE horror EVEN MORE THAN I ALREADY DID!
Fast forward; 1985. After Creepshow... me and my posse were waiting for this to be released and saw this the week it opened.
Now first- I LOVE the concept (the underground complex- the tunnels- etc) , the effects , most of the acting (Lori Cardille was excellent AND believable ) .
. I HATE the idea to training zombies. Once you train a zombie-- well--so what? So it's like a house pet? Is that scary in any way? No it is not. So I do not know where this was going........
The other part of the movie that there was too much "drama" and too many shouting matches between the characters. It went on and on and on......They all make their points, then there is another scene- and more arguing ...AGAIN.
Lastly- the TONE of the movie was too bright and sunny in a lot of scenes and it was not just that -- it just was not as horrific as "Dawn"..... "Day" feels too.... relaxed. And as stated before- the Bub thing is TOO distracting.
"Dawn" feels more dire--more at risk.....more edgey .... and a lot scarier.
OK. KILL ME NOW.
