Would you really have blamed Celie if she cut Mr. with that knife?

When I saw her pick up that knife I swore she was going to slice his head off..lol

reply

If I'd been there I would have done it for her.

reply

if she had cut his throat, then she would never get the chance to finally see her sister and her sister's African family since Mister/Albert was secretly collecting money to bring her over the U.S.

reply

She had 2 chances to slice him up. That dinner table scene and that time she was about to shave him. She took forever sharpening that razor.

reply

Yes. He was a monster that deserved it. But yes. And the fact that she didn't made it all the better.

reply

I can definitely understand the desire but I am glad she didn't. I guess from seeing how life treated Sofia when she gave in to her anger, Celie knew she would end up in another - even worse - prison if she harmed Mister.

The knife at the table yes I would have blamed her. but the razor during the shaving scene when Shug stopped her? No. She didn't have a way at the time sort of speak. But at the dinner, she was going to leave with Shug which she almost ruined if she did kill him because she would have been in jail.

reply

Absolutely not...I have wanted to do some slicing for less than what she put up with.

reply

In retrospect, she only helped herself by not cutting him, as we saw how the film events unfolded. Her self-control ultimately helped her reunite with her lost sister and children.
