This movie always...

...gives me a sense of creeping dread. I enjoy the comedy, darkness, and dreamlike quality, but for me the strongest element is the sense of the noose ever-tightening. I’ve never been to New York city, and the thought of being lost/trapped there is a little disconcerting. Maybe the city’s legend precedes it? After Hours is a solid movie, but its effect on me seems to be different from others.

I know what you mean, even though I did live in NYC for a year.

Yeah it’s not a typical comedy, Scorsese doesn’t do ‘lighthearted’, it’s basically an anxiety dream in which try as he might Paul can somehow never seem to get home.

Only in a Scorsese ‘comedy’ does the love interest OD and die.
