I believe the parlour scene is the most intense ever filmed.

Its power is extraordinary.

I cannot think of any monologue even approaching this intensity - Kurtz in Apocalypse Now a distant second IMHO

This scene us what cinema was invented for.

This was where the movie, which had been excellent up to that point, got bogged down and fell apart.
