I always was under the impression that Francesca Annis was too young (she looked a lot younger than 39 especially for the time) to be Paul's mom, but their birth dates are listed as 1959 and 1945. So, technically if she had Paul at 14 she could indeed be his mom in real life. Take into account that in this film we are dealing with royal houses.
