I'm wondering if some people on this board watched the same movie I did?

Socialist propaganda? Republicans must hate the ending?

All I can say to that is, Bah Humbug!

It's a bit of both sides. The work houses are terrible and my tax dollars are wasted on them (Conservative idea) and forcing somebody to help the poor via scaring them (Liberal idea). Whatever, I'm a conservative person, fiscally at least and enjoyed the movie. I did not really think about the political implications of this until it was finished. It's a good story, he chose to change his life so that others would have a good future.

This is my story. This is the sacrifice my father made. This was his gift to me.

A good post fmirzz. I agree that the tale contains, as you say, "a bit of both sides." I just find it odd that anyone see the story, which is essentially a tale of personal redemption and second chances, as either a socialist polemic or as something that would ultimately repulse those on the political right.

Then again, I ran across an flame war on youtube recently where someone was claiming that Mystery Science Theater 3000 became "pro-Republican" when Mike Nelson replaced Joel. So I guess some folks find agendas everywhere...

I find it unfortunate as well that some would read a silly political message into this wonderful story. As you said, it is a story of personal redemption. It is not a call for action on either side of the political spectrum.

As for MST3000, I have not seen this, but I suppose that some people will read politics into anything.

Because of the hate on both sides in my country the U.S, I am posting a link to I heard the bells on Christmas Day. It was written during the American Civil War and it expresses what the writer felt at that time. And our country is just as divided now as it was back then. I fear another Civil War will happen.

A civil war of sorts is very likely at some point. The left has been attacking the Constitution as a hindrance to their vision and will at some point make a real run at flipping it. This will probably take many years or even decades, but whether a civil war happens will be determined by how many Constitutionalists willing to fight will be left.

Yeah. I agree. I am a republican and I give quite a bit to charities every week. The store I work in has charity collection boxes and when I see only coin change in it I put a few dollars in it. I also give to the Salvation Army outside my store durring the holiday season. I give 10% of my income to my church who then give a portion of that money to food pantries and a program that supports giving homeless and poor kids food. So yeah. That guy was wrong.
