Which scenario is more frightening?

I assume you refer to the 1952 movie Invasion USA, which is about a Soviet attack with nukes and a lot of troops as well... Since the film was made before the Soviets had fusion weapons and long before ICBMs, the number, yield and distribution of nukes would be far less catastrophic than in The Day After.
