The film was released in 83 and he is 17.
I think they goofed when they showed his ID.
Then obviously the action takes place in 1981

The actor was twenty-ish when the film was shot. The character was seventeen. Movies are about image not reality.

So he'd have been 17 when proceedings start, and turned 18 during the course of the movie (in the autumn of 82) - I guess they didn't show his birthday party, but you just know Skip would have made it a good one
