Why does Carol Marcus not recognize Khan?

David honestly believed that the attack and murders on the station were done by Starfleet. So is it possible, that as a pacifist scientist, she didn’t have much time to read history? Is it also possible that Khan and his attack on the Enterprise 15 years earlier was classified? The fact that he was alive and nearly took over a star ship would've be embarrassing to Starfleet. So if Carol was unaware of that then wouldn't she have an excuse to not recognize Khan as he was older?

According to what came later in TNG, DS9, Voy and Enterprise. Genetic engineering on humans to create augments is forbidden since the original incident in the 90's with Khan and his augment army (Trek timeline).

So the knowledge of Khan might have been classified by Star Fleet post "Space Seed" just like how the augment experiments in the 22nd Century (Enterprise) with Eric Soong were confiscated and classified.

This might explain why not only Carl Marcus didn't know of Khan but also why the Reliant crew didn't know about Ceti Alpha V but I do believe that's stupid because I doubt Star Fleet would have said it's OK to chart that solar system. Unless Kirk's report on Khan to Star Fleet was completely different !
