The Dark Knight Rises
That film basically ripped off Rocky III's story haha.

After the events of The Dark Knight, Bruce has lost his mojo. Bruce also does not heed Alfred's advice on Bane being a formidable opponent unlike the mob and scum of Gotham Batman had faced before.
Before their second match, both Rocko and Bruce thought they could beat their opponents with old tactics and training.
I would liken Adrian's verbal KO at the beach in R-III to Alfred's KO in the Dark Knight after Rachel and Harvey's death:
-"Things were always going to get worse before they got better....they are going to have to make do with you."

Haha, Jeezus. The more you look into it, the more blatant it is.
Didn't catwoman take on the Apollo creed role as well?

Lonestarr,
respectfully, I think you are reading too much into it. Nolan's take on Batman was to make him more ordinary and vulnerable. Batman thought he get back into the cape and cowl, even after breaking his leg and losing his motivation to fight crime on the streets. I think both movies illustrate the plight of a man rising up to a great challenge. Batman's story in TDKR is more compelling than Rocky's in R-III because the lives of many are at stake. If Rocky loses against Clubber in the second match again, it just says that Clubber is a better fighter. Rocky won't lose his livelihood, marriage, child, or mansion. ( I love that Rocky wins though. )
Cheers.
Rocky III is still a far superior film to TDKR, and I do think Nolan (who has a habit of knocking other films off) used this film's story as a base.

I think the similarities are definitely there... But it was more than Clubber being the better fighter had he won again.
If Rocky lost, Mickey would have been right in that Rocky was a paper champion. The championship would have been owned by the bad guy -- truly showing that Rocky wasn't great (or as good as he let everyone believe) and that good guys don't always win. No way would they have gone with that ending.

Funny you should mention that, but it is not reading into it too much. Goyer was conscious of this and does mention it in interviews. Just google it.

I didn't find anyhing on Goyer, but I did come across an article on the Hollywood Reporter where the author compares the trailer of TDKR to ROCKY III, so Lonestarr was on to something. There definitely are similarities, but I attribute that to the fact that Nolan and the writers wanted to turn Batman into an underdog, and Mickey always supported Rocky, whereas Alfred never agreed with Bruce being a vigilante.

Nope, Batman never appeared in any Rocky movie so theres no connection
shareNo connection but a bit of similarity. They were both brutally beaten in battles. Rocky by CLubber, Batman by Bane. Then they both train hard with help. Rocky had Apollo pushing him, Bruce had the weird guy in his cell pushing him. They both come back and ultimately defeat their defeaters.
shareFascinating.
Rocky 3 was always my fave. I saw it in the theater as a high schooler and it was very inspirational to our generation.
