Do you believe that the draining of the essence is painless?

A Skeksis claims that stealing one's essence doesn't hurt. It appears that most of the procedure induces a numbing effect, but I imagine that the early stage is painful because of the shocking transition in the brain.

I'd say no, it's more like a trance induced by the crystal's beam or something.

Kira was later trying to resist it which I think gave the impression it was hurting her but she was struggling to get free.

MikeCable, if that is so, then the symptom is a painful paralysis from the beam instead of a stunned one from being drained in conjunction with the crystal's effect. I have taken the event as a physically hurtful change in the beginning coupled with hypnosis from the bright light in faces. It's possible that we're both correct depending on who is being tortured with the crystal. Gelflings don't seem to react as quickly and easily to the procedure as Podlings do. They, as the only kind of creature who has the power to stop the Skeksis, can be expected to have greater resistance to the monstrous experiments.

Similar to how a liberal is created...produces a numbing effect and brain death
