Best version

I thought this was the best version of all the mice and men adaptations. Anyone agree?

It was a very faithful version with a good ensemble cast. Other versions I've seen put too much emphasis on the actor playing Lennie. Robert Blake is almost perfect as George. The production has a bit of a Michael Landon feel to it, but it's a TV movie, after all, and was probably filmed on a very limited budget. Would love to know where they filmed it.

I prefer the staging of the climax here to the one in the Sinise/Malcovich version. The slow zoom into George's face as he prepares to shoot Lennie and having Lennie out of shot when the gun goes off is much more effective than the long shot in Sinise's version. Through George's expression, we see the anguish he is going through.

Sinise's version doesn't have Lennie saying "I see it, Geroge, I see it" just before the shot is fired, either.

Yes, I also noticed the effectiveness of the slow zoom and I thought that was excellent. I first saw this version many years ago and it made such a lasting impression on me that I could never accept anyone besides Blake/Quaid as George/Lenny. Sinise and Malkovich, as great as they are, couldnt cut it for me and believe me, I am a great fan of both those great actors.

I saw this as a kid and have seen several adaptations of this book and this one had the best death scene for Lennie. Very powerful and effective.

The second best would be the older version with Burgess Meredith. I really abhored the Gary Sinise version and didn't like Malkovich's interpretation at all. Not a fan.

Yes this is the best version. Blake nails the role.

I love this version too!
Everyone is excellent, from Robert Blake, Randy Quaid to Ted Neeley.

Ted Neeley is perfect as Curley, hard to believe he was as good when he played Jesus in JCS.
